Behind the Scenes: How We Keep Things *Spotless* at Atlantis Dental

Dr. Sumbul Naqvi • August 5, 2025

Let’s face it — when you visit the dentist, you’re probably thinking about your teeth, not what’s happening behind the scenes with sterilization and infection control. But at Atlantis Dental, we’re kind of obsessed with it. In fact, you could say we have a *sterile obsession.*

Here’s a peek into what really goes on when it comes to keeping you — and every patient — safe.

I Was Trained to Treat the Most Vulnerable Patients First

Before I ever became a dentist, I trained in a clinic that treated severely medically compromised patients — people with suppressed immune systems, chronic illness, and fragile health. In that environment, we couldn’t afford even the tiniest mistake.

We followed higher-than-standard infection control protocols, because a single lapse could seriously impact a patient’s life. That experience shaped how I run Atlantis Dental today.

Zero Tolerance for “Almost Clean”

At our office, we have a 0 tolerance policy for breaches in sterilization. That means:

- No shortcuts.
- No “I forgot.”
- No “just this once.”

Every assistant who joins our team is trained and re-trained, even if they come from other offices with years of experience. Why? Because 'what they did there' isn’t always up to our standards here. We do things the Atlantis way — and it shows.

Our Sterilization Process (A Love Letter to Cleanliness)

Here’s what every single instrument goes through before it ever comes near your mouth:

1. Manual scrubbing to remove all debris
2. Soaking in ultrasonic solution to lift microscopic particles
3. A second rinse, thorough drying, and packaging into sterilization bags with color indicators
4. Sealed bags go into one of our three professional-grade autoclaves, which heat sterilize everything at high pressure

Each autoclave is spore-tested weekly by a third-party lab, and those results are reviewed by every licensed provider on staff.

Bonus: You’ll See It With Your Own Eyes

We always open the sterilized bag in front of you, so there’s no mystery. What’s yours is yours — fresh, clean, and never reused.

And when the front desk says, “Your room is being prepped,” our assistants are in there wiping down every surface with medical-grade disinfectant — chair, handles, counters, trays — the works.

Why It Matters

We’re not just doing this because we have to — we do it because we care. You trust us with your health, your smile, and sometimes even your kids. That’s an honor we take seriously.

If you've ever wondered what goes into keeping a dental office clean, now you know: a little science, a lot of training, and a whole lot of pride.

Come see the difference at Atlantis Dental. We’re not just clean — we’re Atlantis clean.
